The Varibike is a combination of a rowingbike (or rowbike), handcycle and normal bike. The Varibike allows different movement patterns and is therefore so refreshingly varied. Different drive styles can be used for the Varibiken. You can crank synchronously with your arms, like with a rowingbike, or you can paddle in opposite directions and optionally pedal with your legs.
In contrast to the rowingbike, the sitting position on the Varibike is upright. This gives the Varibiker a better overview of road traffic and makes him much more visible to other road users. With the classic rowingbike (rowbike), the arm crank movement is always synchronous, i.e. parallel. This means that you always have the same monotonous drive movement with a rowingbike (rowbike). With the Varibike, on the other hand, there are several different drive styles available. No rowingbike (rowbike) in the world offers so much variety. You can switch between the following types of drive while riding: - only with the legs (as with a conventional bicycle) - only with the arms - only with the right or left arm - with the legs plus right arm or plus left arm - Arms and legs together When using the arms, you can even switch between the alternate style (arms crank in opposite directions) and the synchronous style (arms crank in parallel). Another disadvantage of the rowingbike (rowbike) is that people with intact legs cannot use them for propulsion. With the Varibike, in addition to the strength of the upper body, leg strength is also used for propulsion. Thus, when varibiking, you train everything, your arms and legs, as well as the chest, shoulders, back and all the core muscles.
The video below shows the main muscle groups used when varibiking. It shows the different muscle strain in the different crank positions. The muscles of the lower body are used as in normal cycling and are therefore not shown.
